This guide will show you the fastest way to level your Classic Skinning skill from 1 to 300 in World of Warcraft Classic or Season of Discovery, while being cost-effective. Skinning is the easiest profession to skill while leveling your character.
What’s the best combination? The Skinning profession in World of Warcraft pairs well with Leatherworking. You can use all the hides to create armor to level up your Leatherworking profession.

Leveling Classic Skinning
1 – 75
Remember to purchase a Skinning Knife from a Leatherworking Supply vendor near your trainer or any General/Trade goods vendor. You don’t need to equip the knife, but you must have it in your bag to skin mobs.
If you enchant your gloves with Formula: Enchant Gloves – Skinning, you’ll be able to skin enemies one level higher than your current skill level.
Keep in mind that even if a mob is red or orange to you, it doesn’t guarantee a skill-up. While it’s more likely, it won’t happen every time.
From levels 1 to 50, make a circle around the lake near Ironforge. Once you reach skill level 50, visit your Skinning trainer, Balthus Stoneflayer, in Ironforge to learn Journeyman Skinning.
Continue leveling your Skinning to around 75 as you move toward Loch Modan. If you don’t reach level 75, don’t worry; a lower skill level will still be sufficient for Loch Modan.
Begin at Sen’Jin Village in Durotar and make your way to Orgrimmar, skinning every beast along the path.
Once you reach Orgrimmar, visit your trainer Thuwd to learn Journeyman Skinning.
Reaching skill level 75 isn’t guaranteed by the time you get to Orgrimmar, but even if you only reach skill level 50, it will still be sufficient.
Learn Journeyman Skinning
Learn Skinning Journeyman from your trainer.
Leveling Journeyman Skinning
75 – 165
Hunt down boars, bears, or crocodiles to level up your Skinning profession to 115. Next, head to Wetlands and skin all the Gnolls you encounter to reach level 165.
From skill level 75 to 125, skin the beasts you encounter on your way to Camp Taurajo. Ensure you reach Skinning 125 before arriving at Camp Taurajo.
Learn Expert Skinning
Learn expert Skinning as soon as you reach profession level 125 from Dranh (Horde) at Camp Taurajo or Balthus Stoneflayer (Alliance) in Ironforge.
Leveling Expert Skinning
Learn Artisan Skinning
Learn Artisan Skinning from Balthus Stoneflayer (Allianz) or Kulleg Stonehorn (Horde) once you reach a profession level of 205 or higher, but make sure to do so by level 225 at the latest.
Leveling Artisan Skinning
205 – 300
From skill levels 205 to 230, skin mobs around Camp Mojache. This area is accessible to both Horde and Alliance players. Once you reach skill level 230, mount up and head to the Yeti caves. If the Yeti cave is already being farmed, head south to hunt Hippogryphs instead.
When you reach skill level 260, visit the Yeti caves in the southern part of Feralas. These Yetis are higher level. After clearing the cave, you’ll find many beasts outside the cave to skin.
At skill level 280, you can fly to Un’Goro Crater, but you can also stay and continue skilling up by defeating the beasts in front of the cave.
