This guide will show you the quickest way to level your Classic Fishing skill from 1 to 300 in World of Warcraft classic or Season of Discovery as cost-effectively as possible.
What’s the best combination? Since Fishing is a secondary profession, it doesn’t matter which primary you choose in WoW. However, Cooking is particularly useful because it allows you to use the captured fish to cook buff food.

Leveling Classic Fishing
1 – 75
Buy a Fishing Pole and a few Shiny Bauble from any Fishing Supply or Trade Supply merchant.
- Open your Spellbook (P).
- Click on the General tab at the top-right side of your spellbook and find the Fishing spell.
- Drag the Fishing spell to your action bar for easy access.
- Equip your Fishing Pole and apply the Shiny Bauble lure.
- Go to any starting zone and look for a lake, pond, or river. Stand by the water and press the fishing button.
- Watch the lure in the water. When it splashes, right-click on it. Keep fishing until you reach Fishing skill level 75.
The fishing pole increases your chances of catching fish, and the Shiny Bauble lure boosts your fishing skill by 25. It’s a good idea to use a lure while fishing to get better results.
Remember, each location has different types of fish that are unique to that area. If you need specific fish for professions or quests, check ahead to see which fish can be found in which zone.
Learn Journeyman Fishing
To train Fishing past 75, you must learn Journeyman Fishing (requires character level 10).
Leveling Journeyman Fishing

Leveling Expert Fishing
150 – 225
Before heading out, purchase a large quantity of Bright Baubles from Old Man Heming to ensure you have enough for your fishing journey.
Next, travel to Dustwallow Marsh. Equip your Fishing Pole, apply the Bright Baubles, and fish until you reach skill level 225.
Dustwallow Marsh is an excellent choice for this because the Artisan Fishing Quest begins there. However, you can also achieve skill level 225 by fishing in these zones:
- Alterac Mountains: A mountainous region with several lakes and rivers that provide excellent fishing opportunities.
- Arathi Highlands: Known for its wide rivers and serene lakes, making it a prime fishing spot.
- Desolace: Despite its barren appearance, this zone has plenty of hidden water bodies teeming with fish.
- Stranglethorn Vale: A lush, tropical area with abundant coastline and inland waters perfect for fishing.
- Swamp of Sorrows: A murky, swampy region with numerous pools and lakes ideal for fishing.
- Thousand Needles: Characterized by its towering rock formations, this area has several fishing spots, especially around the shimmering oasis lakes.
These locations not only offer diverse fishing environments but also provide a variety of fish that can be valuable for cooking and other professions. Make sure to take advantage of the different fish types available in each zone to maximize your fishing efficiency.
Learn Artisan Fishing
To advance your Fishing skill beyond 225, you need to complete the quest “Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme” from Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh. This quest requires you to be at least level 35 and have a Fishing skill of 225.
To finish the quest, you must catch four specific quest fish from different locations:
- Feralas Ahi – In Feralas in the lake south of Dire Maul.
- Misty Reed Mahi Mahi – On the eastern coast in Swamp of Sorrows.
- Sar’theris Striker – In the southwest of Desolace
- Savage Coast Blue Sailfin – On the western coast in Stranglethorn Vale
When fishing in Feralas, use Bright Baubles to prevent the fish from escaping. For the other zones, you won’t need any additional lures since your fishing skill will be sufficiently high by then.
Leveling Artisan Fishing
